BNHS: A wildlife legacy, freshly told
The Bombay Natural History Society has championed biodiversity conservation through science, education and public engagement since 1883, making it one of India's oldest and most respected wildlife research organisations. Its website, however, hadn't kept pace. The brief was to rehaul it for an audience of all ages, to give BNHS's activities and knowledge base the space they deserve, and to make the experience far smoother than it was. I built the design around a single idea: that flora and fauna depend on each other for an ecosystem to thrive. Animal silhouettes carry leaf textures, while trees and plants take on the textures of feathers and animal skin. The base of the site picks up the colour of red mud found across India, grounding the whole experience in the land the society works to protect.
